FROM THE SCHOOL YEAR
The school opened with 19 children on 22nd of February 2021 for the new session 2021. This time the school books and stationeries were distributed before the school opened for the new session. The school smoothly functioned till the first week of May 2021. After which, lockdown was re-imposed. From May 2021 till the 7th of November 2021 teachers continued to educate the children by sending audio and video lessons through ‘Whatsapp’ and for children of kindergarten, hard copies of the lessons were handed over to the guardians. Two attempts were made in July and October 2021 to reopen but sudden rise in corona cases within the Kolbung village hindered the attempts. The teachers often visited the children at their homes during this period to find their well being.
From 8th of November 2021 the school has again started functioning. Only students of classes two, three and four are now attending the school twice a week from 10:30 am to 12:30pm but not in school uniform. They are having special classes as the final exams are approaching. The half yearly exams for classes 1 to 4 were conducted in August 2021 through “Whatsapp”. In the morning the questions were sent out to “Whatsapp” numbers of the guardians and by evening the students had to revert back with their answers on “Whatsapp”.
Kolbung school will be conducting annual exams from 6th of December, 2021. Students of classes 1, 2, 3 and 4 will come to the school physically to appear for the examination. This year the exams will of shorter duration and of 50 marks.
Esther Rai, teacher of Kobung school has been down with kidney stone problem. She his not keeping well and is under medication. Since she is not able to teach, Aradhana Subba (ex-teacher of Kolbung) is temporarily working in Esther’s place.
EFFECTS OF CORONA VIRUS
Kolbung had registered quite a few corona cases during July and August 2021 but no deaths were recorded. Now the village is corona free. Most of the villagers have had their 1st dose of vaccine. Here, life is slowly but surely getting back to normal.
The third phase of relief programs was organised just recently through which the children and their families were helped with packets containing rice, wheat, pulses, potato, oil, spices, salt, soap and washable masks. The teachers and the parents are extremely grateful to HANDELSBANKEN and CHILD – Sweden for their love and concern for these poor and needy families.
The teachers would like to express their sincere thanks to the donors for standing by them at these tough times due to the pandemic.

DAGLIGT SCHEMA: 09:30 till 12:30 för förskoleklasserna. Övriga, upp till klass 4, slutar kl. 14:30.
ÄR SKOLAN REGISTRERAD HOS SKOLMYNDIGHETERNA? Nej och inget nytt har hänt sedan förra året. Men skolmyndigheterna har heller inte meddelat några invändningar. Den lokala administrationsmyndigheten (local Panchayat) ger full support till skolan.
FINNS DET NÅGON STATLIG SKOLA I OMRÅDET? Det ligger en statlig primärskola c:a 3 km bort. Den fungerar dock endast sporadiskt och endast de dagar det i så fall uppenbarar sig någon lärare. Undervisningen uppges vara torftig. Det är därför som den lokala administrationsmyndigheten ger ”vår” skola allt stöd.
VAR FORTSÄTTER ELEVERNA STUDERA EFTER KLASS 4? Efter klass 4 så fortsätter de flesta eleverna att gå i Takdah Mission School som ligger 8 km bort och dom lämnar då hemmet kl. 8 för att hinna dit.
BIDRAG FRÅN FÖRÄLDRARNA: Totalt bidrar föräldrarna med Rupees 14 400 (c:a 1 800 SEK) under ett år.

FINNS DET TOALETTER OCH VATTEN? Ja
FINNS DET ELEKTRICITET I SKOLAN: Nej
HAR SKOLAN EN LEKPLATS? Ja, och nu skyddas den av det nybyggda stängslet mot vägen.
VILKET BEHOV UPPFYLLER SKOLAN: Eftersom den statliga skolan i området inte fungerar så behövs skolan i Kolbung fortfarande en tid. Dock måste föräldrar och den lokala myndigheten (Panchayat) fortsätta att kräva att lärarna infinner sig till tjänstgöring i den statliga skolan, istället för att syssla med egna andra arbeten, så att den skolan kan ta över och ge en tillfredställande undervisning för områdets barn.
